Box Score The Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team came one win short of their ultimate goal.
Nipissing dropped a 4-0 decision to the Concordia Stingers in the USports Women's Hockey National championship game Sunday evening in Charlottetown, PEI.
The Lakers had two big wins earning their way to the finals, defeating UBC in the quarter-finals and UNB in the semi-finals, all while not allowing a goal.
Concordia entered the finals in a similar fashion, blanking PEI in their first game and Saskatchewan in the semis.
After a scoreless opening period, the Stingers found the back of the net late in the middle frame on the power play.
It ended Lakers' goalie
Chloe Marshall's shutout streak of 158 minutes.
An early goal in the third seemed to seal the game, as the Stingers weren't allowing much, especially in their own end.
A third goal just after the midway mark of the period put the game away and Concordia added an empty-net goal with just over two minutes left in the game.
Marhsall finished with 33 saves, while the Lakers had 25 shots of their own.
Stingers goalie Alice Philbert finished the week perfect, not allowing a single goal in three victories.
Despite the loss, the Lakers claim a silver medal, marking the first time the team has medaled at nationals – in their first trip – and it also earns Lakers Athletics their first ever CIS/USports medal.
A truly remarkable feat for a program that only joined the USports/OUA in the 2013-14 season.
