MEN'S BASKETBALL: LAKERS FALL SHORT ONCE AGAIN AGAINST OTTAWA

Box Score With the season winding down and only three games remaining on the schedule, the Nipissing Lakers men's basketball team is looking for a big finish to the campaign.

After a tough loss Friday night, the Lakers looked to bounce back and give their post-season chances a big boost.

In the end, it was the Gee Gees coming away with the 78-59 victory Saturday afternoon.

The Lakers looked strong to start the game, but still trailed 15-11 early on.

They managed to fight back towards the end of the opening 10 minutes, finding themselves down three, 19-16.

Ottawa had a big second quarter, building up a cushion over the Lakers heading into the halftime break.

Nipissing was outscored 20-10 and fell behind 39-26 at the midway point of a competitive game.

A strong third saw the Lakers cut into the Gee Gees lead, closing the gap to nine points with just over three minutes left in the quarter.

They finished the quarter outscoring Ottawa 18-14, staying within nine heading into the fourth and final quarter of regulation.

Down 53-44 entering the fourth, the Lakers couldn't keep up their strong play from the third, managing just 15 points down the stretch.

Ottawa stepped up their game at both ends of the court, posting 25 points to seal the game and sweep the two game weekend series.

Four Lakers hit double digits in points, with Nick Gehlen leading the way offensively, who posted 15 points, Ricardo Neves and David Bokanga each had 13 and Nathan Riley added 12 points, along with 11 rebounds for a double-double.

The Lakers wrap up their home schedule next week, hosting the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks Friday night.

The game is the inaugural Shoot for Change Anti-Racism Game and tip-off is set for 8pm at the RJ Surtees Athletic Centre.
