LACROSSE: LAKERS OFFENCE CLICKS, BUT THEY DROP A PAIR ON THE ROAD

Although they came out on the wrong end of the final results, there are positives to take away from the Nipissing Lakers lacrosse team's road trip this past weekend.

After dropping the season's first two games and scoring just four goals, the Lakers offence woke up, scoring a total of 13 times in a pair of games this weekend, unfortunately they lost 14-5 to the McGill Redbirds and 10-8 to the Carleton Ravens.

Saturday, Nipissing opened the scoring, but trailed 4-1 after the first quarter.

Zach Tarr found the back of the net early in the game to put Nipissing up 1-0 before McGill answered.

The Lakers fought back in the second thanks to goals from Dalton King and Jesse Ashkewe, but were down 7-3 at halftime.

Ashkewe scored the lone goal for the Lakers in the third quarter as McGill extended their lead to 10-4.

Finally, Tarr would bury his second of the game in the fourth quarter, but once again, the Redbirds had an answer and sealed the win with four more goals, making the final 14-5.

In the second game of the weekend, the Lakers hung tough, falling just short in the end.

The teams finished the first quarter even at 2-2 thanks to goals from Quinn Harding and Carter Tait.

The difference in the game came in the second quarter as Carleton outscored Nipissing 3-1 to go up 5-3 at the half.

King had the lone Lakers goal before the halftime break.

The Ravens extended their lead by one in the third, outscoring Nipissing 3-2.

King found the back of the net again, as well as Ashkewe, who tallied on the power play.

The Lakers pushed back in the fourth, closing the gap to two goals.

Tarr had a pair and Ashkewe continued his strong weekend with another goal, but in the end, the Ravens held on for the victory.

Up next, the Lakers host the Queen's Gaels Saturday at 6pm.
