Box Score Entering the weekend with a 3-1-0 record, the Nipissing Lakers men's soccer team looked for a big win against their rivals, the Queen's Gaels Sunday afternoon.
It was another intense contest, with the Lakers coming up with a thrilling last second goal to come out on top, by a final of 3-2.
After leading 2-0 for much of the contest, the Gaels climbed back into the game with two second half tallies, but that setup the heroics from a pair of Nipissing veterans.
Jack Collins was brought down in the box, setting up a penalty kick where captain
Tyrell Chambers stepped up and made no mistake, burying the winner.
To kick things off, it didn't take long for the Lakers to get on board, as they found the back of the net just a minute into the game.
Salim Taha finished off a bouncing ball, heading it into the corner of the net to give Nipissing the 1-0 lead.
The lead stood as the teams entered the halftime break.
In the second half, the Lakers went up 2-0 on a goal by
Cedric Devos.
While they still controlled much of the play, the Lakers saw their lead disappear as Queen's fought back with a pair of late goals to tie things up 2-2.
Queens scored at the 63-minute mark and tied the game seconds before injury time.
Then, Chambers took care of the rest.
Confidently stepping up to the ball, Chambers hammered home the shot to the bottom corner to give Nipissing the win and full three points, moving them to 4-1-0 on the season.
The Lakers hit the road for a pair of games next weekend, taking on the Trent Excalibur Saturday and the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks Sunday.
