WOMEN'S SOCCER: LAKERS COME UP SHORT AGAINST QUEEN'S

Box Score Coming off a tough weekend in Ottawa, the Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team looked to get back on track at home Sunday afternoon.

The Lakers welcomed the Queen's Gaels to town for the lone game of the weekend after Nipissing's matchup with RMC was rescheduled.

It was the Gaels, unfortunately, who came away with the win and three points, as they topped the Lakers by a final of 5-1.

The Gaels opened the scoring in the 19th minute, finding the back of the net on a cross in the crease.

Queen's went up 2-0 just over 10 minutes later with a goal off of transition rattling off the post and into the net.

The Gaels took their two goal lead into the halftime break.

The Lakers climbed within one early in the second half, with Cassidy Brooks continuing her strong season, burying a header into the back of the net.

Jen Milligan sent a perfect cross off of a corner which was met by Brooks who got the Lakers on the board.

Unfortunately, the Gaels would answer that goal with three of their own.

Within 10 minutes, Queen's tallied three times to go up 5-1 by the 70-minute mark.

Nipissing had a number of chances late in the half, but the Gaels' goalkeeper stood tall, making three excellent saves to keep the score in favour of the Gaels.

The Gaels held on late and picked up the victory.

Up next, the Lakers head to Peterborough to take on the Trent Excalibur Saturday afternoon before facing RMC in a makeup game Sunday at noon in North Bay.

Game time is set for Noon.
