Box Score Winners of four straight, the Nipissing Lakers men's volleyball team was looking to stay hot as they hit the court at home for the first time in 2023.

Coming off their first national rankings of the season, the Lakers hosted the Trent Excalibur Friday night.

The Lakers made short work for Trent, sweeping them 3-0 to continue their strong play as of late, improving to 3-0 in 2023.

Nipissing started strong, building a 10-5 lead in the early going.

While Trent stayed in the set and forced the Lakers to stay on their toes, Nipissing claimed the win, 25-17, to go up 1-0 in the match.

In the second set, Nipissing jumped all over Trent, going up 7-1 early before the Excalibur pushed back.

Nipissing answered Trent's comeback attempt and extended their lead to 15-7 midway through the set and continued to put distance between themselves and the Excalibur.

The Lakers led 21-10 and cruised to the 25-10 win in the second.

The teams were even through the early part of the third set and it took until midway through for the Lakers to pull away.

Nipissing grabbed a 14-11 lead and never looked back.

Trent refused to quit, battling back late, but the Lakers were too much, winning the third set 25-20 to complete the sweep.

The win is Nipissing's fifth straight.

Jackson Young and Jacob Ringma each had seven kills, Taydon Shantz and Jeremie Murray each added six in the victory.

The Lakers and Excalibur wrap up their weekend series Saturday evening.

Match times is set for 6pm at the Robert J. Surtees Athletic Centre.
