Box Score 2 The Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team played some extra hockey this weekend, heading to overtime in both contests on the road.
Saturday night, the Lakers dropped a tight 3-2 overtime decision to the Waterloo Warriors, while they snuck out a 4-3 victory in the extra period Sunday against the Western Mustangs.
On Saturday night, the Lakers scored the lone goal of the first and third periods, tying things up after the Warriors scored twice in the middle period to take the lead, to force overtime.
Unfortunately, the Warriors grabbed the win scoring a minute into the extra frame.
Malory Dominico had both Lakers goals, while
Maggie McKee,
Katie Chomiak and
Madison Desmarais all had assists in the game.
Chantelle Sandquist finished with 21 saves in the contest.
Sunday was a different story, as the Lakers had leads of 1-0 and 3-1 before the Mustangs stormed back to tie things up, scoring twice in two minutes late in the third period.
This time, it was the Lakers who scored in the overtime, giving them a win and a weekend split.
Ashley Taciuk scored twice, while Chomiak and
Madison Laberge, with the overtime winner, scored for the Lakers, while
Chloe Marshall picked up the win in net.
McKee had two more assists, Laberge had an assist on top of her winner for a two point game and
Emma Thomas,
Emma Neff,
Elizabeth Laberge, Chomiak and Dominico all picked up helpers as well.
Nipissing returns home for a pair of games this weekend, hosting Ontario Tech Friday and Queen's Saturday.
