Box Score Coming off a comeback victory Friday night over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks, the Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team was hoping to make it a perfect weekend.
The Lakers played host to the Queen's Gaels Saturday night at Memorial Gardens on the hunt for win 15.
A low scoring game that went to overtime saw the Gaels sneak out the win, edging Nipissing 2-1.
There was nothing in the way of offence to report from the opening period, but the teams did combine for 21 shots, as the Gaels controlled that aspect of the game, outshooting Nipissing 15-6.
The Lakers were first on the board despite being outshot, as
Malory Dominico stayed hot, scoring her 13th of the season.
Megan Hayhurst grabbed an assist on the game's opening goal that came at the 5:03 mark of the middle frame.
The game's first goal was the only tally through the first 40 minutes, as the Lakers took a 1-0 lead into the second intermission.
Shots still favoured the Gaels, as they fired 22 on net compared to Nipissing's 18 through 40 minutes.
In the third, with the score 1-0 Lakers, the Gaels finally solved Lakers goalie
Chloe Marshall as they tied things up just under four minutes into the game on their 25th shot of the game.
The Queen's goal in the third was enough to send the contest to overtime, as the Lakers play some extra time for their third time in their past four games and have their fourth straight one-goal decision.
After just over half the overtime period was played, the Gaels escape North Bay with the extra point, finding the back of the net on a rebound after a few chances off the rush with 2:34 remaining in the extra frame.
Marshall finished Saturday's contest turning aside 30 shots, while the Lakers had 30 shots of their own.
Next up, Nipissing continues their homestand as they host the Guelph Gryphons Friday night and the Brock Badgers Saturday afternoon.
Both games are at Memorial Gardens.
