Box Score The Nipissing Lakers women's basketball team enters the weekend winners of three of their past four games and have been steadily rounding out their game as the season has progressed.
The Lakers welcomed the Brock Badgers to the Robert J. Surtees Athletic Centre Friday night, looking to knock off one of the OUA's stronger programs.
Despite a hot start and a consistent effort, the Lakers fell short, falling 67-53 to the Badgers.
Nipissing got off to a very strong start, building up an early lead thanks to some hot shooting and strong defensive play.
They led after the first quarter, 18-17.
The Badgers stormed back early in the second quarter, grabbing a 35-28 lead.
A strong half by both teams saw the Badgers lead at the halftime break, up 41-33.
In the second half, the teams traded baskets early on, with Brock maintaining a lead, but the Lakers hanging in the game and keeping things close.
Brock led by 11 midway through and extended it to 15 points early in the fourth quarter and began to pull away as the game closed in on the final whistle.
Nipissing fought back late, staying within striking distance, but couldn't close the gap to less than 11 points, eventually falling 67-53.
Nicole Budd led the Lakers offence with 12 points, while
Sawyer Fischer and
Megan McCarter each had nine.
The Lakers hit the road and head to Guelph for a matinee game on Sunday against the Gryphons.
