The Lakers took on the Brock Badgers in the final game of the team's four game homestand.
After going up 2-0, Nipissing held on for a 2-1 win, bouncing back from a tough loss Friday night.
The Lakers didn't waste any time getting on the board as they went up 1-0 less than five minutes into the period.
Emma Thomas made a slick move off a rebound and tucked the puck into the back of the net.
Kara Den Hoed and
Maria Dominico picked up the assists after a strong shift in the Badgers end.
The period wrapped up with the Lakers ahead by a goal, while the shots favoured Brock 9-8.
There was no offence to report through the first half of the middle frame despite a few chances at both ends of the ice.
Just minutes after the midway point of the period, the Lakers doubled their lead, making it 2-0 thanks to a shorthanded goal.
The Lakers turned up ice and
Ashley Taciuk stuck with the play and tapped home her sixth of the season to extend the Nipissing advantage.
Madison Desmarais and
Emma Neff both earned helpers on the tally.
In the final minutes of the period, the Badgers cut into the Lakers' lead with a lucky goal to make it 2-1.
Despite being outshot 26-11 through two periods of play, the Lakers held on to a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.
The Lakers closed the gap in shots thanks to a few power plays early in the third, but the score remained 2-1 in favour of Nipissing.
Nipissing held on for the final few minutes and closed out the victory, earning the weekend split.
Chloe Marshall was between the pipes for the Lakers and finished the game with 31 saves, while Nipissing managed 25 shots on the Brock net.
Nipissing hits the road for their next two games, facing Laurier Friday night and Windsor Saturday night.
