Box Score 2 It was a weekend of up and downs for the Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team.
The up was a dominant 5-0 win over the York Lions Saturday afternoon to begin the weekend, but the down was a tough 6-2 loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues Sunday afternoon to wrap up the weekend road trip.
In their victory, the Lakers received goals from five different players and a shutout by goalie
Chantelle Sandquist.
Nipissing scored twice in the first, as
Kara Den Hoed fired home a shot from the point, while
Maria Dominico found the back of the net late in the period.
A three-goal second period put the game away for the Lakers as
Kamryn Grooms,
Ashley Taciuk and
Malory Dominico all scored to cruise to the win.
Sandquist finished with 19 saves for the win.
On Sunday, in a first place showdown, the Lakers dropped the decision to the Blues after an intense contest.
A total of five goals in the first period saw the Blues leave the opening 20 minutes with a 3-2 lead.
Den Hoed and
Malory Dominico scored for the second straight game in the opening frame, but from there, it was all Toronto.
Already up a goal, the Blues another in the second period and put the game away with two goals in the third.
Chloe Marshall was tagged with the loss in the game.
Next up, the Lakers head back out on the road to face the Waterloo Warriors and Western Mustangs.
