WOMEN'S SOCCER: LAKERS FALL TO BLUES SATURDAY AT HOME

Box Score With the regular season entering the final two weekends, the Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team was not only looking to finish strong, but also lock up a home game for the opening round of the OUA Playoffs.

The Lakers hosted the Toronto Varsity Blues Saturday in North Bay, looking for a key three points.

After 90 hard-fought minutes, the Lakers fell 4-0 to the Blues, suffering just their second loss of the season.

In the first half, neither team was able to generate much in the way of offence, cancelling each other out on most attacks.

The Lakers had the better of the few chances and outshot Toronto 2-1.

A tough second half for Nipissing saw Toronto take advantage and capitalize on their chances.

The Blues went up 1-0 on a penalty kick at the 58-minute mark and took over the pace of the game while up a goal.

They doubled their lead just under five minutes later, as well as continuing the momentum swing in their favour.

The Lakers, tried to battle back, using a number of free kicks as quality chances, were unable to find the back of the net and cut into their deficit.

At the 72-minute mark, Toronto went up three goals and they tacked on a fourth in the 81st minute.

Despite the loss, Nipissing still sits with a solid 6-2-2 record and will regroup for their final weekend of the regular season.

Next up, Nipissing takes on the powerful Ottawa Gee Gees.

Game time is set for noon next Saturday at the Nipissing Turf Field.
