Box Score The Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team found a way to grind out a victory on the road this past weekend.

The Lakers headed down Highway 17 to take on their northern rivals, the Laurentian Voyageurs and managed to sneak out a 1-0 win, to claim three points and improve to 5-1-2 on the season.

After a scoreless opening half, the lone goal came early in the second.

Just over seven minutes in, Jessica Emmerton continued her outstanding season, burying her sixth goal of the season to give Nipissing a 1-0 lead.

The goal – assisted by Jennifer Milligan – stood up as the winner.

Taylor Mitchener was back in goal for the Lakers, picking up a clean sheet, making a pair of saves.

Nipissing outshot Laurentian 5-2 through 90 minutes.

Next for the Lakers is a trip to Peterborough to take on the Trent Excalibur in their lone game of the Thanksgiving weekend.

It's set for noon on Saturday.
