Box Score Coming off to strong efforts, but not the results they wanted, the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team was back at home for the first of two home games on the weekend.
The Lakers hosted the York Lions Friday night, as both teams looked for their second win of the season.
From the puck drop, the Lakers dominated and skated away with a convincing 5-0 victory.
In the opening period, it was all Lakers.
They outshot York 16-4, but were unable to find the back of the net and the two teams headed to the intermission all tied up, 0-0.
In the middle frame, Nipissing was rewarded for their barrage of shots.
Just two minutes into the period, off an offensive zone faceoff, the Lakers took the lead.
Charlie Johnson snapped a shot home, putting the Lakers up a goal.
Kyle Foreman won the draw directly to Johnson who made no mistake.
Less than two minutes later, the Lakers doubled their lead thanks to
Harrison Caines' second goal of the season.
He fired snapped home a shot, with both linemates –
Charles Farmer and
Parker Bowman – earning assists on the goal.
The Lakers capitalized on a 5-on-3 power play, as defenceman
Payton Vescio picked the top corner for his first of the season.
Caines and Farmer each earned their second helper of the night.
Another dominant period sees the Lakers tally three times, sending them to the second intermission up 3-0.
Shots heavily favoured Nipissing, 34-7.
Less than two minutes into the third, the Lakers added to their lead, making it 4-0.
Bowman made no mistake on a breakaway and grabbed his third point of the game, snapping a shot off the post and in.
Caines and
Matthieu Franche drew assists on the Lakers fourth goal of the game.
With York pushing and the goalie pulled, the Lakers put the game officially out of reach, scoring into the empty net.
Farmer and Caines traded passes before Farmer tapped it home.

Reece Proulx earned his first OUA win, finishing with a 13-save shutout.
Nipissing peppered 44 shots at the Lions net.
Nipissing is back in action Saturday night when they host the undefeated Concordia Stingers.
