Box Score The Nipissing Lakers men's soccer team would secure a playoff spot with a win, but faced a tough opponent Sunday to close out the regular season.
The Lakers welcomed the Queen's Gaels to town, needing a win or a Trent loss to slide into the sixth spot, good for a place in the OUA post-season.
Unfortunately, they weren't able to grab a result, falling 3-0 to the Gaels.
In the first half, the Gaels came out strong, scoring three times, including one on a penalty kick.
Queen's broke the 0-0 tie 12 minutes into the game and added their second goal before the half-hour mark.
About five minutes before halftime they made it 3-0 thanks to a penalty kick and took their three goal lead into the break.
In the second half, the Lakers attempted to pick up the pace and put pressure on the Gaels, but were unable to convert a few quality chances.
It wasn't for lack of trying, but the Lakers were held in check and fell short in the end.
The Lakers will now wait for the final from the Trent and TMU matchup that started at 3:15pm in Toronto.
For the Lakers to advance to the post-season, they'll need a TMU victory over Trent, which would see Nipissing finish in sixth spot.
