Box Score The Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team faced a tough task as they closed out the regular season.
With a lot to still be decided in terms of the playoffs, the Lakers hosted the Queen's Gaels Sunday afternoon at the Nipissing Turf Field.
A single point or better would earn the Lakers a home playoff game, but a loss would require some scoreboard watching to see where they finish.
The Lakers didn't need help, as they took care of business, handing the previously unbeaten Gaels their first loss of the year, as Nipissing scored twice in the second half to win 2-1.
In the first half, neither team was able to take control or generate much offensively until late in the half with time winding down.
The Gaels pushed forward and created opportunities, finally finding the back of the net on a rebound, going up 1-0 just before the halftime whistle.
In the second half, the Lakers poured it on and it paid off.
Cassidy Brooks scored her first of two, tying the game at the 61-minute mark.
That goal setup Brooks' heroics, as she buried the winner to clinch a home game in the post-season, scoring in the 80th minute.
The Lakers first round playoff matchup will take place Wednesday in North Bay at the Nipissing Turf Field.
The opponent and time will be finalized Sunday evening.
