The Nipissing Lakers lacrosse team wrapped up the regular season this past weekend with a pair of games.
In a re-scheduled game, the Lakers dominated the Laurentian Voyageurs and came away with a 13-1 victory.
In the season finale, the Lakers fell 6-2 in a tight defensive contest, as the Laurier Golden Hawks escaped with a win.
In the first game, the Lakers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first quarter and took that lead into the halftime break.
Nipissing busted the game wide open in the second half, scoring nine goals, including five in the third quarter.
They added four in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Connor Nevin had a hat-trick and two assists,
Carter Tait had to goals and three assists to lead the attack.
Jesse Ashkewe and
Myles Shorey each had two goals and an assist, while
Matt Lalonde,
Kaleb Fulkerson,
Quinn Harding and
Ryley Ruff all added singles in the win.
On Saturday night, the Lakers came up short in a tight defensive contest.
Laurier grabbed a 2-1 lead after the first quarter and led 3-2 at the halftime break.
They added to their lead, in the second half, holding the Lakers scoreless through the final 20 minutes of play.
Three more goals put the game away for the Hawks, who swept the season series with Nipissing.
Ashkewe and
Jacob Tarr had the Lakers goals.
Next up, Nipissing heads to the CUFLA Playoffs, taking on the Western Mustangs in the qualification game.
Game time is set for 6pm in London.
The winner will advance to the Baggataway Cup, scheduled for Nov. 3-5 at Trent, in Peterborough.
