Box Score The Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team kicked off their playoff journey Wednesday night at home, hosting the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks.

The Lakers entered the game as the third ranked team in the OUA East Division and the Ridgebacks were the underdogs, sitting as the sixth seed.

Despite going down 1-0, the Lakers stormed back with a huge second half and walked away with a 3-1 victory, moving on in their quest for an OUA title.

In the first half, both teams managed a few early chances, but neither could find the back of the net through the first 25 minutes.

Finally, on a long shot, the Ridgebacks grabbed the lead.

The goal came at the 28-minute mark and put the underdogs up a goal just before the teams played half an hour.

Trailing a goal, the Lakers managed to regain the momentum and capitalize on a chance just over 11 minutes after the Ontario Tech goal.

Jennifer Milligan made no mistake trying the game, with the assist going to Cassidy Brooks.

In the second half, with the game even 1-1, the contest came down to the final 45 minutes of play.

And the Lakers took over.

Nipissing dominated the second half, scoring twice to pick up the win.

Jessica Emmerton scored an outstanding goal, which turned out to be the game-winner, at the 75-minute mark.

She took a pass just outside the crease and chipped the ball into the top corner, converting a nice play with an even better finish.

About eight minutes later, Emmerton was replaced by Kennedy Attwell and the veteran midfielder made no mistake on her chance, sealing the game by burying a shot.

The two late goals had the fans buzzing and the Lakers moving on to the quarter-finals.

Nipissing now advances to take on the Queen's Gaels Saturday in Kingston.
Game time is 6pm.
