Box Score The Nipissing Lakers women's basketball team looked to finish the weekend off in style, hosting one of the OUA's top teams.
Coming off a tough loss Friday night, the Lakers were back in action Saturday afternoon taking on the Queen's Gaels.
While they managed to hold their own against the undefeated Gaels, Queen's was too much as they came away with a 79-62 win, getting past the Lakers.
After a slow start put them down early, the Lakers managed to fight back to close out the first quarter, but still found themselves down 23-14 after the opening 10 minutes of play.
The team combined for 40 points in the second frame, with the Gaels extending their lead by outscoring the Lakers 23-17.
Thanks to that outburst, Queen's took a 44-31 advantage into the halftime break.
In the third, the Lakers fought back, closing the gap by one, as they edged the Gaels 16-15 in the quarter, but still saw their deficit sit at double digits, trailing 59-47 through 30 minutes of play.
Down in the fourth, the Lakers continued to hang around and keep pace with the Gaels, but the deficit was too much to overcome, as they fell by 17 in the end.
Sophie Milner posted 20 points,
Megan McCarter had 12 points and 10 assists and
Taryn Gauthier added 11 points in the contest.
The Lakers hit the road next weekend, taking on the Waterloo Warriors Friday night and Laurier Golden Hawks Saturday afternoon.
