Box Score Entering the weekend on a six game winning streak and sporting a perfect 4-0-0 record at home, the Nipissing Lakers women's hockey hosted the Western Mustangs.
Friday's contest was the first of two at home this weekend, as they host the Windsor Lancers Saturday night, as well.
From start to finish, the Lakers dominated and skated their way to a convincing 5-0 victory to kick off the weekend.
In the opening period, it didn't take any time for the Lakers to get on the board.
Megan Hayhurst buried her third of the season to give Nipissing an early one goal lead, as they immediately set the tone.
Ashley Taciuk and
Tessa Kosec earned helpers on the game's opening tally.
Just after the midway mark of the period, the Lakers doubled their lead as newcomer
Abby Lunney continues her strong campaign.
She scored her sixth of the year, with
Madison Desmarais and
Lana Duriez setting up the speedy forward.
The Lakers blew the game open in the second period, scoring three times.
Malory Dominico scored seven minutes in to put Nipissing up three, followed by Taciuk's third of the season less than a minute and half later
Dominico's tally was unassisted, while
Madison Laberge grabbed a helper on Taciuk's goal.
Desmarais added a goal to her earlier assist, making it 5-0 with just under four minutes to go in the period.
Lunney made it a multi-point game with an assist and captain
Allison Hayhurst drew another assist on the goal.
In the third, the Lakers closed things out, locked the game down and cruised to the lopsided victory.
Chantelle Sandquist was back between the pipes, finishing with 17 saves, while Nipissing had 31 on the Mustangs goal.
The Lakers are back on the ice Saturday night as they host Windsor.
Puck drop is set for 5pm at Memorial Gardens.
