Box Score 2 The Nipissing Lakers women's basketball team had a tough road trip, battling through a pair of competitive contests, but falling short.
The Lakers lost twice, losing 69-47 to the Waterloo Warriors Friday night and dropping a 75-46 decision to the Laurier Golden Hawks Saturday afternoon.
Friday, a slow start put the Lakers behind early on.
Down 15-4 after one, Nipissing fought back before halftime, but still trailed 38-18 at the break.
A much better second half saw the Lakers claw their way back into the game, outscoring the Warriors 17-14 in the third.
Unfortunately, Waterloo put the game away in the fourth and powered their way to the win.
Taryn Gauthier posted 11 points, while
Sophie Milner added nine in the contest
On Saturday, Laurier jumped out to a commanding lead in the first quarter and didn't look back.
Up 24-10 after one and 45-25 at the break, Laurier was in control.
Nipissing managed a strong final quarter after a tough third, but it wasn't enough to find their way back into the contest.
Megan McCarter led the Lakers attack with 13 points and nine rebounds, while
Sophie Milner had nine points and 10 rebounds in the game.
Nipissing is back at home next weekend, hosting the Ottawa Gee Gees and Carleton Ravens at the Robert J. Surtees Athletic Centre.
Game times are 6pm both nights.
