Box Score Looking to get back into the win column, the Nipissing Lakers women's hit the court for their first of three straight at home.
The Lakers hosted the Ottawa Gee Gees Friday night, in the first of two meetings of the season, with the second one coming in Ottawa in January.
An impressive start wasn't enough, as the Lakers dropped a 73-48 decision to the Gee Gees to begin the weekend.
Nipissing had a great start, grabbing an early lead and playing well at both ends of the court in the early portion of the game.
After a strong 10 minutes, the Lakers led 15-13.
Ottawa battled back and got on track, turning things around early in the second.
A quick offensive burst saw them go from down a pair to up seven, leading 28-21 midway through the second quarter.
At the halftime break, the Lakers trailed the Gee Gees 40-23.
In the third, both teams shot well and looked strong on the offensive side of the ball and combined for 37 points, with the Gee Gees extending their lead.
After 30 minutes of play, the Lakers found themselves down 60-40.
In the fourth, it was a defensive struggle to close out the game, but the Gee Gees outlast Nipissing
Megan McCarter led the Lakers with 13 points, while
Taryn Gauthier added nine in the contest.
The Lakers are back on the court Saturday night, closing out they weekend against the Carleton Ravens.
