Box Score The Nipissing Lakers men's basketball team is getting closer, but the results haven't followed just yet.
The Lakers looked to get back into the win column Saturday night as they hosted the Carleton Ravens in North Bay, a night after a tough loss to the undefeated Ottawa Gee Gees.
While they competed throughout the first half, the Lakers ran out of gas in the second half again, losing 87-58 to the Ravens.
Nipissing came out determined early on, jumping out to a 15-12 lead, after trailing 12-10.
Unfortunately, the Ravens stormed back and took a 23-17 lead into the end of the opening quarter.
In the second, Nipissing played impressive defence and added some timely baskets, outscoring the Ravens by two, ending the half down just four.
At the break, the Lakers trailed 38-34.
In the second half, the Ravens took control.
Nipissing was outscored by 18 in the third quarter, all but sealing the game as they had bad luck, coupled with Carleton's hot shooting.
In the fourth, it was more of the same.
Nipissing kept it close, but the Ravens pulled away late in the frame.
Outscoring Nipissing 21-14 sealed the game, as the Lakers dropped their second of the weekend.
Alex Blackmore led the Lakers with 18 points,
Darnaz Mabanza had 13 and
Alvin Icyogere added 10 in the game.
Nipissing hosts the Laurentian Voyageurs in the first game of a home-and-home series as they close out the first semester of play.
The Lakers host the Vees Friday at 6pm, before heading to Sudbury Saturday night.
