Box Score Coming off a tough loss to a strong Ottawa Gee Gees team Friday night, the Nipissing Lakers women's basketball team was back at it Saturday night.
The Lakers hosted the undefeated Carleton Ravens Saturday night, in the middle game of the team's three game homestand.
Despite a very good first half, the Lakers ran out of gas in the second, eventually falling 81-57 to the Ravens to close out the weekend.
After a slow start for the Lakers, they stormed back to close out the opening quarter.
Finishing in impressive style, Nipissing held a 24-23 lead after 10 minutes of play.
In the second, Carleton managed to slow down the Lakers offence, limiting Nipissing to just 13 points as they regained the lead.
At the halftime break, the Lakers trail the top-ranked Ravens by just three, 40-37.
Baskets were hard to come by in the third for the Lakers, as they were unable to close the small gap they had at the half.
From down, just three, the Lakers trailed 66-45 after three quarters of play, as they managed just eight points in the third, as the Ravens posted 26.
After a tough third, the Lakers attempted to slow down the Ravens, but were unable to cut into their deficit early in the fourth.
The Ravens held on for the win, as they outscored Nipissing 41-20 in the second half to take control.
Chantal Piche led the Lakers with 12 points, while
Sophie Milner,
Dominique Bouchard and
Megan McCarter all had eight in the contest.
Nipissing hosts the Laurentian Voyageurs in the first game of a home-and-home series as they close out the first semester of play.
The Lakers host the Vees Friday at 6pm, before heading to Sudbury Saturday night.
