Box Score 2 After a bit of a slide, the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team got back on track this past weekend on the road.
The Lakers picked up two solid wins, defeating the Laurier Golden Hawks 3-2 Friday night, before dumping the Waterloo Warriors 5-2 Saturday afternoon.
In the victory Friday, after a scoreless first, the teams exchanged goals in the second period.
Kyle Foreman buried the game's opening goal before the Hawks tied the game late in the period to send teams to the third tied 1-1.
The Lakers struck twice in 35 seconds in the third to go up 3-1.
Cole Stewart and
Matthieu Franche buried power play goals in the third, with Franche tallying the game-winner.
Foreman added assists on both third period goals, completing a three point night.
Reece Proulx had a strong outing in net, turning aside 37 shots in the victory.
Saturday, the Lakers took control early on.
Nipissing scored twice in the first, as
Parker Bowman found the back of the net early on before
Harrison Caines scored a late power play goal to put the Lakers up 2-0 after one.
Caines added a second power play goal midway through the second period, putting Nipissing up 3-0.
Waterloo replied with a pair of goals to climb back in the game, but a strong third sealed the victory for the Lakers.
Bowman scored his second of the game, while
Devyn Mayea sealed the win with a third power play goal for the Lakers with less than five minutes to go in the game.
The Lakers had four players – Caines, Bowman,
Charles Farmer and
Payton Vescio – who all recorded multi-point games.
Zach Roy made 27 saves for the victory.
Nipissing wraps up the first semester hosting the Guelph Gryphons Wednesday at 7pm, before heading to Oshawa to take on Ontario Tech Saturday afternoon.
