Box Score The Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team managed to earn a point in their final game before the Christmas break.
The Lakers trailed twice, but managed a late goal to send the game to extra time before falling 3-2 in a shootout to the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks Saturday night in Oshawa.
The Ridgebacks struck first, scoring the only goal of the first period and led until early in the second.
Charles Farmer tied the game in the middle frame, with
Parker Bowman and
Harrison Caines setting up Farmer's tying goal.
The Ridgebacks would regain the lead with six minutes left in the third period, seemingly grabbing the victory, but
Cole Stewart had different plans.
Stewart buried a power play goal with 21 seconds left to tie the game and send it to overtime.
Lakers defenceman
Payton Vescio earned the helper on the tying goal.
Overtime didn't solve anything, so the game went to a shootout where the Ridgebacks outscored the Lakers 2-1 to grab the additional point.
Nipissing fired 39 shots on the Ridgebacks net, while
Zach Roy made 26 saves for the Lakers.
Nipissing is back in action in January, as they resume the OUA season in 2024.
