Box Score The Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team came up big Friday night, ending the Toronto Varsity Blues 16-game winning streak and sending a message as they headed into the playoffs.
On Saturday, the Lakers hosted the Varsity Blues once again, wrapping up their weekend series.
It was another thriller and the same hero as Friday night, as
Katie Chomiak scored both goals, including the overtime winner, for the second straight game.
Much like Friday night, there wasn't much to report in the way of offence, as the teams wrapped up 40 minutes of play all tied up, 0-0.
Shots heavily favoured the Lakers, 18-8 after two periods, but neither team was able to find the back of the net.
Toronto was first to get on the board, finding the back of the net late in the third period, with just five minutes remaining.
With time winding down, the hero from Friday night, Chomiak, stepped up again.
She found the back of the net on the power play to tie things up at 1-1 with just over two minutes to go.
Maggie McKee and
Lana Duriez picked up assists on the goal.
Chomiak was once again the hero, scoring in the extra period to give the Lakers another overtime victory over Toronto.
McKee grabbed another assist, setting up the winner.
Chantelle Sandquist was in net for the Lakers, finishing with 12 saves, while Nipissing had 33 of their own on the Toronto net.
The Lakers wrap up the season with a pair of games next weekend; Friday at home against Waterloo and Saturday on the road against Ontario Tech in Oshawa.
