Box Score Looking to avenge a heartbreaking loss Friday night, the Nipissing Lakers men's basketball team was back on the court Saturday, this time at home.
For the second straight night, the Lakers battled the Laurentian Voyageurs as the teams wrap up their season series.
Flipping the script from Friday night, the Lakers came away a much-needed victory, winning 93-82, over their rivals from Sudbury.
In the opening quarter, the Lakers came out strong at both ends of the court.
They posted a big number, scoring 33 points and headed into the second quarter up 33-20.
The Lakers extended their lead early in the second frame, going up by 17.
Nipissing finished a dominant half and headed into the break leading 60-35.
Beginning the second half, with the Lakers up, Laurentian began climbing back into the game.
The Vees outscored Nipissing 28-16 in the third to get back into the game, but the Lakers maintained a healthy lead heading into the fourth and final quarter.
Despite Laurentian once again outscoring the Lakers and closing the gap, Nipissing was able to hold on and come away with the 11 point victory to split the weekend series.
Leading the Lakers was
Muktar Mohamed with 22 points,
Danny Lukusa had 19,
Noah LaPierre added 17,
D'Andre Johnson chipped in with 14 and
Kevin Mervart scored 10 in the win.
Nipissing is back in action on the road next weekend, facing Ottawa and Carleton.
