WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: LAKERS COME UP JUST SHORT AGAINST VEES FOR SECOND STRAIGHT NIGHT

Box Score The Nipissing Lakers women's basketball team has set a new standard this year, but is also looking to finish the season strong.

The Lakers came up short, losing a tough 67-64 decision last night in Sudbury to the Laurentian Voyageurs as they look to bounce back and earn a weekend split.

It came down to the wire once again, but the Vees held off the Lakers push and came away with a six point win, taking the contest 60-54.

The teams played a pretty even first half, with the Vees getting the jump early on and building a 13-9 lead after the first quarter.

Nipissing bounced back in the second, posting 20 points and closing out the half in style, taking a one point – 29-28 – lead to the break.

In the third quarter, the Vees turned the tables on the Lakers, outscoring them 16-12 to take the lead heading into the fourth quarter.

After three, Laurentian led Nipissing 44-41.

Three quarters saw the game head back and forth, setting up an exciting finish.

While they closed the gap throughout the quarter, the Lakers were never able to take control of the game or regain the lead.

Laurentian was able to hold off Nipissing, coming away with another tight win, 60-54.

Nicole Budd had a strong game with 14 points, Krystal Osburn added 12 and Megan McCarter had 10 for the Lakers in the contest.

Nipissing hits the road for a pair of games next weekend, making the trip to Ottawa to take on the Ottawa Gee Gees and Carleton Ravens.
