The Nipissing Lakers lacrosse team fell short in pair of home games to begin the 2023 CUFLA season this past weekend.
The Lakers fell to the Brock Badgers 13-8 Saturday afternoon and ended the weekend with a tough 7-4 loss to the McMaster Marauders Sunday morning.
Saturday Loss vs. Brock
The Lakers struggled early in their season-opener, finding themselves down 5-0 after the opening quarter and 11-1 at halftime.
They put together a strong second half, outscoring Brock 7-2 as the Lakers climbed back into the game, but the deficit was too much to overcome.
Kaleb Fulkerson finished with two goals and an assist, while
Connor Nevin had a pair of goals as well.
Carter Tait scored once and added a pair of assists, while
Zach Tarr,
Myles Shorey and
Dalton King each added a goal and an assist.
Sunday Loss vs. McMaster
Sunday's contest was much different as neither team was able to take control of the play until late in the contest.
McMaster led the Lakers 3-2 at halftime, with Nipissing tying things up in the third, sending the game to the fourth and final quarter tied 4-4.
The Marauders scored the final – and only – three goals of the game to pull ahead and sneak out the victory.
Ryley Ruff and Fulkerson each finished with a goal and an assist, while Tair and Shorey each scored single for the Lakers.
Looking Ahead
The Lakers hit the road for their first two games away from home, facing the Marauders in a rematch Friday night in Hamilton and wrapping up the weekend with a contest against the Western Mustangs Saturday evening in London.
