LACROSSE: LAKERS FALL TWICE ON FIRST ROAD TRIP OF THE YEAR

The Nipissing Lakers lacrosse team is returning home after a tough road trip that saw them dropped a heartbreaking 6-5 decision to the McMaster Marauders Friday night, before running out of gas in London Saturday, falling to the Western Mustangs by a final of 15-4.

Friday Loss vs. McMaster
The Lakers got off to a strong start, but weren't able to sustain the pressure in their first game of the weekend, surrendering a slight lead at halftime and falling by one goal.

After being down 1-0 after one, the Lakers led 3-2 at halftime.

They then trailed 5-3 after three quarters before putting on late pressure, closing the gap to one, but it wasn't enough as they came up a goal short.

Myles Shorey had a pair of goals, while Carter Tait, Jesse Ashkewe and Connor Nevin added singles in the loss.

Saturday Loss vs. Western
Nipissing came out of the gates slow and trailed 4-0 after one quarter and found themselves down 7-2 at the halftime break.

Western continued to pour it on, leading 12-3 after three quarters and added to their lead, outscoring Nipissing 3-1 in the fourth to pick up the lopsided win, sending the Lakers to their second defeat of the weekend.

Nevin had a goal and two assists, Shorey added two more goals and Dalton King potted a single for the Lakers.

Looking Ahead
The Lakers will look for their first win of the season as they take on their northern rivals, the Laurentian Voyageurs Saturday evening at the Nipissing Turf Field.

Both teams enter the game winless, in search of the victory.

Game time is 6pm as part of Nipissing University's Homecoming weekend.
