MEN'S SOCCER: LAKERS SCORE LATE TO EDGE TRENT

The Lakers hosted the Trent Excalibur and despite a slow start, Nipissing came up with a big second half to claim a 1-0 victory and begin the campaign 1-0-0.

In the first half, Trent had the better chances, coming close on a few different occasions.

Nipissing goalkeeper Ryan Miners was strong early, making two point-blank saves to keep the score 0-0.

At the halftime break, the Lakers actually held a 3-1 lead in shots on goal, however, neither team found the back of the net.

In the second half, the Lakers took over and controlled the pace as well as the scoring chances.

They finally broke through late, with just minutes to go, as Cedric Devos hammered home a shot in transition, putting Nipissing ahead.

Hayden Lloyd earned the assist, as the goal stood up to be the game-winner.

Miners finished with three saves for the clean sheet.

Nipissing's game, scheduled for Sunday against TMU, has been cancelled due to a forfeit by TMU and will not be played.

Next action for the Lakers is on the road next weekend, as they head south to take on TMU and Toronto in Toronto.
