Box Score Looking to bounce back from a tough loss Friday night, the Nipissing Lakers men's basketball was back on the court Saturday.
Hosting the Windsor Lancers after coming up short against the Western Mustangs, Nipissing was hoping to salvage the weekend and grab a split.
An intense 40 minutes saw the Lakers come up short, falling 85-75 to the Lancers.
A slow start by both teams saw a low scoring first quarter, with the Lakers trailing just 13-9 through the opening 10 minutes of the game.
In the second quarter, the game opened up a bit, but it was the Lancers who found their stride, posting 23 points and taking control of the game.
At the halftime break, the Lakers trailed 36-23.
A strong start to the third and a solid quarter overall saw the Lakers climb back into the game and cut the lead to eight points.
After 30 minutes and heading into the fourth quarter, the Lakers trailed 60-48.
The Lancers were strong to start the fourth and opened up a cushion, extending their lead by five, pushing the score to 73-56 with five minutes to go.
A flurry by the Lakers got them back in the game as they cut their deficit to eight, trailing 78-70 with exactly two minutes remaining.
As both teams pushed – the Lakers to comeback and the Lancers to seal the win – the game went down to the wire.
After a hard fought 40 minutes, the Windsor outlasted Nipissing, winning by 10.
Darnaz Mabanza led the Lakers offence with 26 points, while
Alvin Icyogere added 22 in the game.
Nipissing remains at home for two more games next weekend, hosting the McMaster Marauders and York Lions.
