Box Score While the results didn't go their way, there was no questioning the effort and the energy level of the Nipissing Lakers women's basketball team.
The Lakers, coming off a tough loss to a strong Western Mustangs team, were back in action Friday night, as they took on the Windsor Lancers.
The game and result were very similar to Friday night in a lot of ways, as the Lakers played well, put together a strong effort, but again came up short, losing 58-52.
A strong start saw the Lakers jump out to a quick lead, but the Lancers managed to fight their way back before taking over late in the first quarter as they took a 15-8 lead into the first break.
The teams both put up 16 points in the second quarter, with the Lakers finding themselves down seven, 31-24 after 20 minutes of play.
In a low scoring third quarter, the Lancers extended their lead – by just two – to carry a 42-34 lead into the fourth quarter.
Nipissing stayed within striking distance, down eight with just over four minutes left on the clock.
A frantic finish in the final four minutes of the game saw the Lakers close the gap to five points, down 55-50.
They kept up the pressure, bringing the game within just a few points, but a few missed opportunities allowed the Lancers to keep the lead and hold on for the win.
Taryn Gauthier led the Lakers with 14 points,
Megan McCarter had 12 and
Sophie Milner had another double-double, posting 10 points and 16 rebounds in the game.
Nipissing remains at home for two more games next weekend, hosting the McMaster Marauders and York Lions.
