Box Score Coming off a tough overtime loss Friday night, the Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team was right back at it Saturday.
The Lakers welcomed the Brock Badgers to town, as Nipissing looked to get back in the win column right away.
Not to be denied two nights in a row, the Lakers came away with a 2-1 overtime victory over the Badgers.
It wasn't the start the Lakers were hoping for, as the Badgers struck early to go up 1-0 at the 7:57 mark of the opening period.
The Badgers goal was the only one through 20 minutes, as the Lakers trailed after one.
In the middle frame, the Lakers tied things up as the program's all-time leading goal scorer,
Malory Dominico buried her 13th goal of the season, making it 1-1.
The goal, which came at the 13:34 mark, was assisted by
Maggie McKee and
Katie Chomiak.
With the Badgers scoring in the first and the Lakers replying in the second, the teams went to the second intermission all tied up at 1-1.
The third period solved nothing, as the game went to overtime – the second straight game for the Lakers.
This time, they were able to find a way to grab the win, thanks to a Chomiak game-winner.
Madison Desmerais set up Chomiak for the winner.
The goal came on the 43rd shot for Nipissing.
Chantelle Sandquist earned the win, turning aside 13 shots.
Next up, the Lakers and York Lions play a second home-and-home set of the season, as Nipissing hits the road Friday and plays their final home game of the regular season Saturday night.
