Box Score Coming off a tough one-goal loss Friday night, the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team was looking to bounce back quickly.
The Lakers once again hosted the Toronto Varsity Blues, as the two wrap up their weekend set at Memorial Gardens.
While the Lakers earned a single point, they fell 3-2 in overtime to close out the weekend.
There wasn't much to report offensively, as the teams combined for just one goal through for 40 minutes.
A Blues power play goal late in the first was the only goal to report after two periods of play.
Shots favoured Nipissing 20-18, but the Blues led.
Both teams struck early in the second, as Toronto doubled their lead with a goal less than five minutes into the period.
The Lakers answered quickly, however, getting within one.
Charles Farmed found the back of the net to cut the Nipissing deficit to one.
Charlie Johnson and
Kyle Foreman earned assists on the first tally of the night for the Lakers.
Following the Lakers goal, Nipissing had two goals waved off as they seemed to tie things up, but the officials called them off.
Finally, third time's a charm for Nipissing as
Reilly Mayne finished off a slick deke to make it 2-2.
Elias Lieffers and
Devyn Mayea picked up assists on the tying goal.
Thanks to the late game heroics, the game went to an extra period.
With 1:42 left, the Blues escaped with the win and extra point.
Zach Roy was in net for the Lakers and turned aside 27 shots, while the Lakers had 37 of their own.
Next action for the Lakers is on the road as they head to London to take on the Western Mustangs for a pair of games on the weekend.
