Looking to get back into the win column, the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team returned home after a few weekends on the road.
The Lakers played host to the RMC Paladins Friday night, before hosting the Lakehead Thunderwolves Saturday evening.
The game needed extra time, as the Lakers came away with a 3-2 win in a shootout.
Early in the first, Lakers captain
Devyn Mayea continued his hot play, scoring just over a minute into the game.
Chad Denault grabbed the lone helper on the ice-breaker.
With three minutes left in the period, the Paladins evened the score, as the shot just snuck over the line to make it 1-1.
After one, the teams headed to the dressing room tied at one.
The shots favoured Nipissing 18-5.
The teams traded goals in the second again, as the Lakers made it 2-1 thanks to
Kyle Foreman's first of the season.
His power play marker was assisted by
Charles Farmer and
Payton Vescio.
RMC replied and tied things up with just eight seconds to go in the period, sending the teams to the dressing room tied for a second time.
In the third, neither team was able to take over or grab the advantage and the game headed to overtime.
After nothing was solved in the extra period,
Charles Farmer scored the lone goal of the shootout and
Reece Proulx made all three saves to give Nipissing the win.
Proulx finished with 17 saves, while the Lakers peppered the Paladins net with 45 shots of their own.
The Lakers wrap up the weekend Saturday night when they host Lakehead.
Puck drop is set for 7pm at Memorial Gardens.
