Up a pair heading into the third, things heated up to say the least.
Laurier hit the board, scoring early in the third, but the Lakers replied quickly to regain their two goal advantage.
Goals 20 seconds apart by the Hawks tied things up heading into the final seven minutes of regulation time.
Caines buried a power play marker with just over five minutes remaining in the game, seemingly giving the Lakers their final lead of the game.
Foreman and Farmer completed multi-point, earning helpers on the go-ahead goal late in the game.
With just seven seconds left in the game, Laurier tied the game and sent the contest to overtime.
It didn't take long for the Hawks to find a winner and spoil a solid effort by the Lakers, as Laurier scored just 55 seconds into the extra period to win, advance and eliminate Nipissing.
Reece Proulx made 32 saves in the contest for the Lakers, who had 34 shots of their own.
