WOMEN'S SOCCER: LED BY BROOKS' HAT-TRICK, LAKERS BLANK RAVENS IN SEASON OPENER

Box Score Looking for another strong season, backed by a solid group of returning players, along with an impressive recruiting class, the Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team was back on the pitch.

The Lakers hosted the Carleton Ravens Saturday afternoon, kicking off the 2024 OUA season.

Nipissing sent the crowd home happy, earning a solid 3-0 win to begin the season, led by Cassidy Brooks' hat-trick

A strong start saw the Lakers on the board in the opening half, with veteran striker Brooks burying the team's first goal of the season.

A perfect pass by Taylor Schell found the foot of Brooks who made no mistake, tapping the ball into the net giving the Lakers the lead.

The score – thanks to the goal 30 minutes in – remained 1-0 after 45 minutes thanks to Brooks' tally.

Brooks doubled down in the second half, scoring again just four minutes into the second, putting the Lakers up a pair.

She would not be stopped as she completed the hat-trick, once again redirecting another great pass, knocking the ball off the bar and into the net.

Her third of the game sealed the win for Nipissing.

Madison Heeley was strong for the Lakers, earning a clean sheet and finishing with six saves in the victory.

Next up, Nipissing hits the road to face the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks and Trent Excalibur next weekend.
