MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: LAKERS ADD LIBERO, CURRENT CHIPPEWA RAVEN

The Nipissing Lakers men's volleyball team has secured another key piece of their team moving forward.

The Lakers are excited and proud to announce they have signed libero, Logan Gilpin, who will join the program for the 2026-27 OUA season.

The product of Keswick, ON is thrilled to be joining the Lakers and Nipissing.

"Seeing the relationships between the varsity players and coaches. My final decision came after a Zoom meeting with Jackson Young during a weekend mini camp. He shared how you helped him transition to a left side, achieve his personal goals, and push himself in the weight room while keeping his mental health a priority," Gilpin explained. "That environment is exactly what I've been looking for since I knew I wanted to play post-secondary volleyball."

Gilpin will be studying criminal justice when school begins in the fall, which matches up with his academic and career goals.

He will make his way to the Lakers following his time with the Venom Carnage Volleyball Club, based out of the York Region.

Gilpin is currently playing for the Chippewa Raiders here in town.

During his time there, Gilpin was able to hone his skills, which are led by his passing abilities.

"I've been told by many people that I'm a strong passer and a smart player who sees the game from all angles and isn't afraid to try new things. I work hard to understand where everyone needs to be on the court and what their roles are," he stated. "What I love most is being a source of energy on and off the court, building strong connections with my teammates, and lifting the people around me."

Gilpin's time at the club level has helped him develop as both an athlete and a person.

"This past season, I was lucky to have an incredible coach who has been my best role model. He's helped me grow not just as a player but also as a person," Gilpin said. "He taught me that I can't control how other people view me. The only things I can control are shutting out the noise, working harder, and staying close to those who believe in me."

Lakers head coach Eric Yung likes what Gilpin can bring to the team and believes he'll fit in nicely.

"We are excited to bring in an athletic athlete like Logan. I had the opportunity to work with him over the last two summers at our performance camp and he possess the skills we are looking for in a libero," Yung said. "He reads the game extremely well and is fearless on the defensive end."

Gilpin has one goal in mind as he continues his volleyball journey with the Lakers.

"My goal is to help Nipissing win at least one OUA championship before I graduate."
