The Nipissing Lakers men's volleyball team has wasted little time landing a strong recruit for the 2026-27 OUA season.
While the Lakers are gearing up for the season opener in a few weeks, they have already locked in Parker McLeod, a middle who has ties to Nipissing, which makes the signing all the more significant.
"I am very excited to join the lakers volleyball program and to study at Nipissing University," he said. "I expect to work hard on and off the court and to earn the trust of my coaches and teammates. As a team I expect us to give our best effort, support one another, and compete at our highest level."
McLeod will be enrolling in the BPHE program when he arrives to Nipissing next fall and the 6-foot-8 product of Innerkip, ON believes his skill will translate into person and team success.
He is currently a member of the Kitchener-Waterloo Predators volleyball club.
"As a volleyball player, I bring a strong work ethic, dedication and a drive to improve both as a player and a teammate. I am a good listener, I take feedback seriously and am eager to learn from coaches and teammates," he explained. "I am an aggressive offensive player and a player who brings consistency to each and every game."
The signing is meaningful for Lakers head coach
Eric Yung, who is excited to bring McLeod to the program.
"We are thrilled to have added Parker to our program for the 2026-27 season. Parker brings a physical presence to the middle of the court along with his positive attitude. Parker is our first ever legacy recruit as both parents are former Lakers," Yung stated. "Relatively new to the game, we are excited to see how much he develops this year with his club and beyond. We look forward to having him and his family on campus next fall."
McLeod, who was high school athlete of the year, earned the OVA Award of Excellence at the U17 level, was a member of Team Ontario Red and he helped his team finish fourth at provincials, feels Nipissing is the right fit academically and athletically.
"I chose Nipissing because of the BPHE program and because of the positive experience I had during the weekend I spent with the team and coaches," he explained.
