North Bay, ON - The Nipissing University Nordic team is excited to sign on a talented recruit, Jillian Daguerre, from a Northern Ontario ski club, for the 2026-27 season. The coaching staff have worked with Jillian over the last couple years, with her attending our summer testing and training camps, rollerski races, and weekend team training sessions. Besides proving to have an excellent cardiovascular engine and being a technically sound skier, Jillian is a super gritty athlete. She also showed natural leadership skills at the training camps, getting the other skiers working together in a spontaneous way. She radiates good energy and competitive spirit and will be a positive contributor to the team culture, as well as a medal contender. She's looking forward to training and competing as a dual sport student-athlete, carrying on her love for XC skiing and her talent for XC running.
 
From her past season results, Jillian comes off a successful run as a high school skier, earning silver individually in the Senior Girls OFSSA Championships, and contributing to a gold medal finish for her home school, École Secondaire Catholique Thériault, in the Senior Girls team relay.

When asked why she chose Nipissing University, Jillian said "Nipissing is a northern school located close to my hometown, and isn't located in a big city.  The Geography program I am interested in had many great reviews. The fact that the campus is surrounded by nature was just what I was looking for and is well-suited for my program as well as my athletic lifestyle.

Daguerre is also a member of the Ontario Junior Ski Team.

"What pushed me to decide to join the Nipissing Lakers Nordic Ski team was mainly the team environment and the coaches. Coach Toivo reminds me a lot of one of my coaches back home. He as well as Coach Alex are very supportive and give amazing technical feedback. I also love the amazing team vibe.  It's such a welcoming and inclusive group which is what I was looking for in a team environment."
