NORDIC SKIING: Two Lakers to compete at 2026 Para Olympic Winter Games

Ailey, Mullin proud to represent Canada and Nipissing in Italy

North Bay, ON – Nipissing University Athletics and Nipissing Nordic Skiing is proud to announce that Madison Mullin, a 2026 Nipissing Nordic commit, and Brooke Ailey, will be competing in the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics for Team Canada.

Mullin is a visually impaired Nordic skier committed to Nipissing for next season. Ailey, a fourth year BPHE student at Nipissing and member of Lakers Nordic, is her guide.

Mullin, a native of Fergus, Ontario, will be competing in the Olympics for the first time. She made her first Para Cross Country World Cup appearance last season. She is determined to use this opportunity to inspire athletes that are unsure if sport has a place for them. Mullin says that she was once unsure if she belonged in sport and was nervous to try something new. She is glad that she did and wants to help young people achieve new skills and experiences.

Ailey says "It is such an honour, not only to represent Canada but to make sure Madison is seen and supported. People can see this partnership and realize that sport can look different and still be powerful."

Brooke says that skiing has helped her mental health. Growing up, Ailey described results and performance being at the forefront of her mind during races, something that grew into an unhealthy burden in her mind. Ailey said that working through these struggles helped her feel grounded and realize that what happens on snow is not just about skiing.

Ailey credits this as something that has helped her become a better guide for Madison. "I never feel judged, and I never feel like something I am feeling is silly or wrong," said Mullin.

Mullin is one of 15 Para Nordic skiers on Canada's team competing at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games. Competition will take place from March 7th – 15th. Below is a breakdown of events.

March 7: Para Biathlon 12.5km Individual
March 8: Para Cross-Country Sprint Classic
March 10: Para Biathlon 7.5km Sprint
March 11: Para Cross-Country 20km Free
March 13: Para Biathlon Sprint Pursuit
March 14: Para Cross-Country Relays
March 15: Para Cross-Country Middle Distance

Nipissing University Athletics and Nordic Skiing are very proud of Madison and Brooke on being selected to represent Canada and can't wait to watch them compete in just over a month's time.

Congratulations, Madison and Brooke!
