Mont-Ste-Anne, Quebec - The Nipissing Lakers Nordic team sent four women and five men to Nordiq Canada National Championships in Mont-Sainte-Anne Québec, with four consecutive days of racing.
Two Lakers skiers, Mia Smith and Seanie Craig, qualified to the heats in the opening sprint race. Mia advanced to the semi-finals, executing textbook technical tactics in her quarter final race.
The long-distance race was particularly epic. Softer track conditions made the skiers plow through ankle-deep slop and double poled the entire race.
The team-sprint the day following saw some close pack skiing. The women's A-team finished seventh, and the men's teams scored 13th and 19th finishes in deep varsity fields.
The week of racing was capped with a 10km classic race and heavy snow for a full range of cross-country ski conditions.
After some long days of action-packed racing, the team will now re-focus on studies and recovery. Cross-Country Ontario season finale races hosted locally this weekend will be the next event for Lakers Nordic Skiing.
With promise showing in recent results, this young team has been seeing some of its best results coming from the U20 skiers. Lakers Nordic will have new recruits joining the team in 2026/27 and 2027/28. The future is bright, and the team will continue to train hard and ski as much as possible.
