Box Score North Bay, ON – Nipissing Lakers Women's Hockey suffered a tough 2-1 loss to the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Friday, Feb. 20 at West Ferris Arena in an OUA Playoff play-in game.
The game saw the 4
th seed Lakers take on the 5
th seed Ridgebacks for a spot in the first round of the OUA's McCaw Cup playoffs.
No goals were scored in the first period as both teams felt their way into the game. Shots were 9-8 for Tech. No penalties were had for either side.
In the second, it was Nipissing's
Tessa Kosec who got the Lakers on the board, scoring at 6:08. Nipissing held that 1-0 lead for much of the period. Tech pressed, firing 18 shots on Nipissing goaltender Allie Lehmann in the second. Then, at 17:50, it was Mackenna Krulicki who got the Ridgebacks on the board, tying the game at one goal apiece.
The score would stay tied through 40 minutes of play. Shots were 18-10 for Tech in the period.
In the third, Ontario Tech maintained their lead well. Nipissing tried to press and generate offense but the Ridgebacks played solid defence and limited the Lakers time in the offensive zone. Tech scored their second goal of the game at 13:41 of the third, as Emily Harrison gave her school their first lead in the contest.
Nipissing pulled goaltender Lehmann with time winding down in the period, and produced a few chances on net. Tech goalie Zoe McGee held the one-goal lead as Ontario Tech skated to a 2-1 win, eliminating the Lakers from the McCaw Cup playoffs.
Shots in the third period were 10-6 for Tech.
Lakers netminder Allie Lehmann stopped 34 of 36 shots she faced in the loss.
Nipissing thanks all Lakers fans for their support of Women's Hockey this season. The 2026-27 season is eagerly anticipated by all.
