North Bay, Ontario – Nipissing Lakers Men's Hockey is excited and proud to announce the signing of goaltender recruit Gabe Gratton to the program beginning this fall.
Gratton hails from Fort McMurray, Alberta. Gabe played the last two seasons with Simon Fraser University's Non-Conference team, appearing in 14 games against NCAA and USports schools.
Gabe describes his game as having a good structure, a high hockey IQ, and a high compete level.
"I want to come in and be able to provide some stability in the goaltending position," Gratton said when asked what expectations he has for himself as he joins the Lakers.
"From the team perspective, I want to make the playoffs. This group came close last year to making the postseason. I believe we have the talent and compete to win games, make the playoffs, and go on a run."
Gratton won Fort McMurray's Rookie of the Year honours with the club in 2021-22 and was named team playoff MVP in both 2021-22 and 2022-23. Gabe also was awarded the team's community involvement award in 22-23.
When asked why he chose to become a Laker, Gabe said "I choose Nipissing due to the combination of strong academics and athletics. I feel the smaller school and class sizes compared to my previous university will be a good fit for me. I can't wait to get started on and off the ice this fall."
Welcome to Nipissing, Gabe.
