WOMEN'S SOCCER: TOUGH WEEKEND SETS UP MUST-WIN FOR LAKERS

Brian Doherty Photo
It wasn't the weekend the Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team had planned as they make a push towards the playoffs.

Sitting on the outside looking in heading into a pair of road games, the Lakers had a chance to move up if they were able to pick up points, however, things didn't go their way.

After a loss to Ryerson Saturday, Nipissing couldn't recover and fell to Toronto Sunday afternoon by a final of 4-0.

For the first 45 minutes, the teams went back and forth and the game was up in the air.

Toronto finally broke through in the 26th minute to take a 1-0 lead.

The score would remain that way until the 60th minute when Toronto would extend their lead to 2-0 – the first of three second half goals for the Varsity Blues.

After taking a 2-0 lead, the Lakers pushed forward to get back into the game, but were unable to find the back of the net and Toronto added two late goals to go up 4-0.

Lakers forward Kristen Farkas led the attack with four shots on goal, while Carlee Bennard was busy in net, but took the loss.

Nipissing was unable to move up and still sit seventh in the East Division, one spot behind Carleton, who has the final playoff spot as of today.

The Lakers are three points, or one win, behind the Ravens with two games remaining on the schedule.

Nipissing faces Queens and RMC to close out the year, while the Ravens take on UOIT and Trent.

It isn't an ideal situation for the Lakers, but they still have a chance to qualify for the playoffs.
