It may not have been the season the Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team envisioned when they began training camp about two months ago, but they certainly finished things off in style.
Wrapping up the year in Kingston against RMC, the Lakers put together a solid effort and came away with a deserved 3-0 victory to cap off the year with their sixth victory.
The Lakers finished the year with 21 points on a 6-7-3 record.
The road proved to be a struggle for the team, posting just a 2-6-1 record, compared to going 4-1-2 at home - an impressive figure.
On Sunday, it was a two goal performance from
Emma Persi who set the tone with a goal just six minutes into the game and capped things off in the second half with her second of the game in the 63rd minute.
Rachel Haine added the other Lakers goal at the 20-minute mark.
The Lakers took a 2-0 lead into the half-time break and added a single in the second half to seal the three points.
Persi's two goals gave her four on the year and Haine's tally was her second of the campaign.
Kelly Dunk, getting the start in goal for Nipissing, made five saves for the shutout, her first 90-minute shutout of 2015.
It was one of the most competitive years in recent memory in the OUA East Division, as eight of the 10 teams finished the season with 20 points and only 10 points seperated second place from eighth place.
