You may think that a combination of a long trip to Thunder Bay, games on back-to-back days and having lost their past four games isn't the recipe for success, but apparently that's not the case.
The Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team had that exact situation heading into a pair of road games this past weekend, but after a 4-3 overtime win Friday to end their losing streak, the Lakers made it two in a row Saturday as they edged the Lakehead Thunderwolves 2-1 to make it a perfect four point weekend.
After a scoreless first period, all three goals came in the middle frame with the Lakers opening up a 2-0 lead thanks to goals by Jacob McDowell and Guillaume Naud.
The goals came less than three minutes apart, but the Thunderwolves did reply just 20 seconds after Nipissing took a 2-0 lead.
From there, the Lakers locked it down and claimed the victory.
Domenic Graham made 29 saves in net for the win, while Nipissing peppered 40 shots towards the Lakehead goal.
The win pushed the Lakers past Carleton and into fifth place in the East Division with a record of 4-3-3.
Nipissing will now return home for five straight home games to close out the month of November.
The homestand begins with Ryerson (5-4-0) Friday night and Toronto (3-5-1) Saturday.
