While they had plans of a couple wins on the weekend, the Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team had to settle for just a single point in their final road trip of the season.
Coming off a 2-1 loss to Laurentian, the Lakers wanted to bounce back and upset UOIT and blast Trent, but a tough 7-0 loss Saturday and a 2-2 draw Sunday have the team on the outside of the playoff picture right now.
On Saturday, UOIT used a big second half, scoring six goals, as they shutout Nipissing 7-0, to claim both meetings this year.
The loss had Nipissing disappointed, but also looking to Sunday's matchup for a big comeback and while they did play much better, they were only able to come away with a point.
Nipissing came back from one goal deficits twice, as the game finished in a 2-2 tie.
Shannon Russell scored Nipissing's first goal in the first half to tie the game at one, at the time and
Selena Innamorati scored late to give the Lakers the tie.
The goal was Russell's second of the season, while Innamorati has found the back of the net four times this season.
Carlee Bennard was tagged with the loss Saturday, while
Mykaela Volpe picked up the tie on Sunday.
With the final road games behind them, the Lakers will focus on four straight home games to close out the 2016 season.
They'll start with Ottawa and Carleton this weekend for a pair of key games in terms of the playoff picture.
Nipissing currently sits five points out of the final spot, held by Toronto.
Three of the Lakers next four opponents are all playoff teams, including the second place and undefeated Ottawa Gee Gees, who will be the first foe this weekend.
Carleton is in fifth place, but sits with a solid 6-3-3 record, won't be an easy matchup.
Grabbing points every game will be crucial for the Lakers if they want to get back to the post-season, after falling short the last few seasons.
The team's final push for the playoffs begins Saturday at noon against Ottawa, at the Education Centre Field at Nipissing University.
